Young Footballers Urged to Value Academics Alongside Sports – Asante Mampong MCE Speaks at Omene Bour Nana Inter Primary School Super Cup

The Asante Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Yakubu Issifu, has called on young footballers to take their education seriously as they develop their sporting talents. He made this appeal at the 2025 Omene Bour Nana Inter Primary School Super Cup held at Yonso, an event that drew enthusiastic participation from pupils, teachers, parents, and community leaders.
Hon. Yakubu Issifu explained that football has become a global profession with countless opportunities, but education remains the most reliable foundation for building a successful future. He stressed that young athletes who combine sports with strong academic performance stand a better chance of excelling in life. He encouraged the pupils to remain committed in the classroom, noting that discipline in school strengthens discipline on the pitch. He added that taking their education seriously will help them express themselves confidently in English during interviews and in any future opportunities they may pursue, making them more competitive wherever they go.

The MCE supported the tournament by donating two footballs to the participating schools and assured the community of his continuous commitment to youth development across the Asante Mampong Municipality.

The 2025 Omene Bour Nana Inter Primary School Super Cup, initiated by Elder Emmanuel Osei Tawia, popularly known as Omene Bour, featured Yonso M/A Primary, Yonso Islamic Primary, and Yonso United Primary. The tournament seeks to discover young football talents, strengthen discipline among pupils, and promote unity and community growth in Yonso.

This year’s edition ended with Yonso M/A Primary emerging as champions after displaying remarkable teamwork and determination. Their victory earned them a cash prize of GHS 1,000 and a trophy, while the Man of the Match received a full educational scholarship from primary school through Senior High School, emphasizing the tournament’s commitment to linking sports with academic development.
