Focus on TVET for a Better Future – Otumfuo Sasamopanin Akyeamehene Advises Ghanaian Students

Otumfuo Sasamopanin Akyeamehene, Nana Akwasi Asare Nyansapo, has urged Ghanaian students to place greater emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a strategic pathway to securing sustainable employment and contributing meaningfully to national development.

He explained that the future of Ghana’s workforce depends largely on the skills and competencies acquired by the youth, adding that TVET provides practical knowledge that empowers students to create jobs for themselves rather than depending solely on the government for employment.

Nana Nyansapo made the call when the 1995 Year Group of Akokeri Teacher Training College Demonstration JHS handed over a newly constructed bus stop terminal and donated exercise books and other essential teaching and learning materials to the school. The ceremony took place at Adansi Akokeri in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.

Highlighting the importance of skills training, he stressed that promoting TVET is one of the most effective ways to address the rising unemployment rate in Ghana. He encouraged students to take their technical and vocational studies seriously, as these skills will position them to succeed in an increasingly competitive job market.

The traditional leader also appealed to the youth in the area to play an active role in supporting the fight against illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, noting that the practice continues to destroy water bodies, farmlands, and the natural environment.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the 1995 Year Group, Nana Kwame Amoako, advised students and young people across the country to distance themselves from drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and other social vices that derail academic progress and future opportunities. He encouraged them to remain disciplined and focused in order to become responsible leaders and citizens.

The Headmistress of Akokeri Teacher Training College Demonstration School, Mrs. Catrine Agyen, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the 1995 alumni group for their support. She outlined key challenges facing the school, including inadequate infrastructure and learning materials, and appealed for continued assistance from past students, stakeholders, and benevolent organisations.

The event brought together community members, teachers, traditional leaders, and alumni who reaffirmed their commitment to improving educational standards at the school and promoting a better learning environment for future generations.
