Abuontem Assembly Member and Residents Appeal for Completion of Abandoned Projects

Residents of Abuontem in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, together with their Assembly Member, Hon. Bismark Kyei, are appealing to the government and the Bosomtwe District Assembly to intervene and ensure the completion of several abandoned development projects that continue to hinder progress in the community.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Bismark Kyei expressed serious concern over the stalled ultramodern water-closet toilet facility, which was designed to serve both males and females within the community. According to him, the project is about 80 percent complete but has been left unattended after the contractor abandoned the site without explanation. He noted that the facility, once finished, would significantly improve sanitation and reduce pressure on the limited existing amenities.

The Assembly Member also lamented the halt in construction of a classroom block that was expected to ease congestion in the local school. He explained that the incomplete structure poses a threat to effective teaching and learning, as many pupils continue to study in overcrowded and uncomfortable conditions. He stressed the urgent need for the contractor to return to site or for authorities to reassign the project to another competent contractor.

Electricity supply remains another major challenge for residents, who continue to suffer from power fluctuations due to an overloaded and inadequate transformer. Community members say the current transformer cannot support the growing population, resulting in frequent blackouts that disrupt business activities, affect home appliances, and pose risks to students who rely on electricity for evening studies. They are calling on the Electricity Company of Ghana and the district authorities to provide a higher-capacity transformer to ensure stable power supply.

Residents further appealed for the rehabilitation of the deplorable Aputuogya–Abuontem–Bekwai road, which they say has become increasingly difficult to use. The poor condition of the road affects transportation, delays emergency responses, and hampers economic activities, especially for traders and farmers who rely on the route to access markets.

Several community members who voiced their frustrations emphasized that the abandonment of these critical projects is negatively affecting their quality of life. They urged the government, the District Assembly, and the Member of Parliament to prioritize Abuontem by ensuring that all stalled projects are revived and completed without further delay.

They expressed hope that authorities would act swiftly to restore confidence and bring the desired development to the community.
