Ahafo Ano South West DCE Hon. Abubakari Sediq Supports 40 Needy Tertiary Students with GH₵1 Million Scholarship Package

In a bold demonstration of his commitment to human capital development and educational empowerment, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakari Sediq, has extended financial support worth GH₵1 million to 40 brilliant but needy tertiary students from various communities across the district.

The initiative, which aims to promote equitable access to higher education and reduce the financial burden on underprivileged students, covers both tuition fees and stipends for the beneficiaries who are pursuing different programmes in science, education, engineering, and the humanities across Ghana’s public tertiary institutions.

The official presentation ceremony took place at the Mankranso District Assembly Hall under the theme “From Classroom to Communities: Investing in Tomorrow’s Leaders.” The colourful event brought together parents, traditional leaders, assembly members, and education stakeholders, all of whom applauded the DCE for his visionary leadership and dedication to empowering the youth through education.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Abubakari Sediq reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to building a future driven by knowledge and innovation. He explained that the scholarship programme forms part of the district’s broader agenda to promote education as a catalyst for sustainable development and poverty reduction.

“This initiative is a core part of the NDC government’s effort to promote rural Community Development Programmes (CDP), which align with our vision of adding value to the lives of people in the Ahafo Ano South West District,” Hon. Sediq stated. “We believe that when we empower people from our rural communities through education, we build the skilled workforce needed to transform our local economy.”

The DCE further encouraged the beneficiaries to study diligently and return to serve their communities after completing their education. “Go, learn, and come back to develop Ahafo Ano South West. The future of this district rests on your shoulders,” he emphasized.

He noted that the Assembly’s investment in education would not only empower individuals but also strengthen the district’s human resource base, drive entrepreneurship, and create sustainable livelihoods for future generations.

Traditional leaders and parents who attended the event commended Hon. Sediq for his forward-thinking leadership and expressed gratitude for his continuous investment in the youth. They described the scholarship package as timely, given the increasing financial challenges faced by students in rural areas seeking tertiary education.

Some beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed deep appreciation to the DCE and the Assembly for the life-changing opportunity. They pledged to make the most of the support and to give back to their communities upon completion of their studies.

Officials from the District Assembly disclosed that the scholarship initiative will become an annual programme to ensure that brilliant but needy students within the Ahafo Ano South West District are not denied access to higher education due to financial constraints.

Through this GH₵1 million scholarship intervention, Hon. Abubakari Sediq has once again demonstrated that education remains at the heart of his developmental agenda — an agenda aimed at nurturing a well-educated, skilled, and empowered generation capable of transforming the fortunes of Ahafo Ano South West District for years to come.
