MTN Ghana Marks 15 Years in Upper West with Commitment to Inclusive Tech Solutions

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its long-standing dedication to digital inclusion and community partnership as it celebrated 15 years of service in the Upper West Region during a high-level Regional Stakeholders’ Forum held in Wa on October 21, 2025. The event, which brought together traditional leaders, policymakers, business owners, media practitioners, and customers, showcased the company’s vision to make technology more inclusive, accessible, and relevant to every Ghanaian.
The engagement formed part of MTN’s nationwide stakeholder series aimed at strengthening relationships with key community actors and gathering direct feedback to improve its services. It also highlighted MTN’s latest innovations and investments designed to accelerate digital transformation and promote equal access to connectivity across Ghana.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana), revealed that the telecom leader had invested over GH¢1 billion in digital infrastructure over the last five years, with an additional GH¢240 million invested in 2025 alone to expand fibre connectivity and 4G network capacity ahead of the nationwide rollout of 5G technology.
He emphasized that MTN’s continuous investments demonstrate its unwavering commitment to powering Ghana’s digital future. “We are not only building infrastructure; we are building bridges of opportunity for communities across the nation,” he stated. “Our mission is to ensure that every Ghanaian—no matter where they live—has access to fast, secure, and affordable digital services.”
A major highlight of the forum was the official introduction of Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual AI voice assistant. Designed to promote digital inclusivity, the innovation enables users to interact in six widely spoken local languages—Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Dagbani, and English. This groundbreaking tool seeks to bridge linguistic barriers and extend the benefits of digital technology to people at all levels of literacy and language proficiency.
In addition to Abena.ai, MTN Ghana also showcased the MTN DigiFest platform, created to promote digital literacy among youth, entrepreneurs, and students, as well as the MoMo Business App, a financial management tool tailored to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to manage transactions and grow their businesses efficiently in a digital space.
Mr. Dogbe reaffirmed that MTN Ghana’s growth strategy continues to be guided by principles of transparency, gender inclusion, customer privacy, and ethical corporate governance. “We understand that our success as a business is tied to the trust of our customers and the wellbeing of the communities we serve,” he added.

Delivering her remarks, Madam Efua Falconer, Corporate Communications Manager at MTN Ghana, expressed deep appreciation to the people of the Upper West Region for their loyalty and partnership throughout the company’s 15-year journey in the area. She noted that MTN remains committed to continuous service improvement and innovation, stating that the Wa event was one of 12 regional stakeholder engagements held across Ghana, with plans to extend the initiative to all 16 regions.
“This platform allows us to listen, learn, and act on feedback from our cherished customers and stakeholders,” Madam Falconer said. “Our commitment to digital inclusion is rooted in our belief that technology must serve everyone, regardless of where they come from or the language they speak.”
In a goodwill message, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, commended MTN Ghana for its critical role in expanding connectivity and supporting local development in the region. He, however, urged the company to decentralize its customer service operations to ease congestion at the main Wa service centre by establishing satellite offices across various communities. This, he noted, would enhance accessibility and reduce long waiting times for customers.
Representatives of the media also called for strengthened collaboration between MTN and local media houses to enhance public education on digital literacy, mobile money security, and responsible technology use. They further encouraged MTN to increase the use of indigenous languages in its campaigns to deepen grassroots understanding and foster stronger community trust.
The engagement concluded with an open interactive session where participants expressed satisfaction with MTN’s initiatives and shared insights on improving service delivery and customer engagement.
As MTN Ghana celebrates 15 years of operations in the Upper West Region, the company stands out as a true partner in development—combining technology, innovation, and cultural inclusivity to shape Ghana’s digital transformation journey. Through initiatives like Abena.ai, the DigiFest platform, and continuous infrastructure investment, MTN Ghana continues to uphold its vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world that empowers every Ghanaian.
