GoldBOD Prioritises Community Growth with Key Development Projects for Amansie West

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBOD) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable community development in mining regions, following a high-profile visit to the Amansie West District Assembly. The delegation, led by senior executives of GoldBOD, met with the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Prince M. Manu, to present a series of transformative projects aimed at addressing the district’s pressing social infrastructure needs.

During the engagement, GoldBOD outlined three strategic project options for the district’s consideration: a state-of-the-art hospital facility, a comprehensive water and sanitation initiative, and a modern educational complex. Each project is designed to directly improve the quality of life for residents and promote long-term socio-economic development in the district.

The proposed hospital project seeks to enhance healthcare delivery by providing residents with access to specialised medical services closer to home. With emergency care, maternal and child health units, laboratory services, and outpatient treatment facilities, the hospital is poised to reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for essential medical care, thereby improving overall community health outcomes.

The water and sanitation initiative addresses chronic challenges associated with limited access to clean water and inadequate sanitation facilities. GoldBOD’s proposal includes modern mechanised boreholes, expanded water distribution networks, public sanitation facilities, and community hygiene programs, all designed to curb waterborne diseases and improve the health and well-being of local populations.

Meanwhile, the educational facility project focuses on providing a modern, well-equipped learning environment for students and teachers alike. The proposed complex would feature spacious classrooms, ICT laboratories, staff accommodations, and enhanced teaching and learning resources. By improving infrastructure and educational quality, the project aims to foster academic excellence and prepare students for future opportunities.

Hon. Prince M. Manu commended GoldBOD for the initiative, describing it as a remarkable demonstration of corporate social responsibility. He highlighted that the District Assembly would carefully assess the three project options to determine which aligns most closely with the district’s immediate and long-term developmental priorities. The DCE emphasized that the selected project would create tangible benefits for residents while supporting the district’s broader socio-economic growth agenda.

Community leaders and residents of Amansie West have expressed appreciation for GoldBOD’s commitment, noting that the projects demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of mining communities. Many leaders emphasized that such interventions are critical for districts where rapid population growth and mining activities have created pressing infrastructure and social service needs.

GoldBOD executives reiterated their dedication to responsible mining practices and ensuring that communities benefiting from mineral resources also experience meaningful development. They stressed that these projects are part of a broader strategy to translate Ghana’s mining wealth into sustainable community growth, reinforcing the organisation’s vision of promoting development alongside regulatory oversight.

The visit marks an important milestone in the partnership between GoldBOD and the Amansie West District. Following the Assembly’s evaluation of the proposals, a decision on the preferred project is expected soon. Once implemented, the chosen initiative promises to deliver long-lasting improvements in healthcare, water and sanitation, or education, setting a precedent for sustainable development in mining communities across Ghana.
