Wawase Residents Urge Government to Provide Modern Classroom Infrastructure

Residents of Wawase, a community in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region, have appealed to the government, the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, and the Education Directorate to provide modern classroom infrastructure to improve teaching and learning in the area.
Speaking to the media, the residents explained that the current classroom block, which serves pupils from Primary One to Primary Six, was constructed by community members through self-help efforts. They described the structure as weak, poorly ventilated, and deteriorating, with the roof and walls showing signs of serious decay. Some classrooms have developed potholes, making them unsafe and unsuitable for effective learning.

The residents further highlighted challenges with teachers’ accommodation. Although the community built a teachers’ bungalow, the lack of a reliable telecommunication network has forced teachers to commute from long distances, leading to frequent lateness and disruption of lessons. They argued that this situation negatively affects the quality of education and overall academic performance.

The community is therefore urging the government and relevant authorities to intervene by constructing a modern classroom block equipped with adequate facilities. They stressed that such infrastructure would not only enhance teaching and learning but also motivate teachers to stay within the community and improve the overall standard of education.

In conclusion, Wawase residents called on the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament, and the Education Directorate to prioritize the community in upcoming development plans, hoping that immediate action will provide a safe, modern, and conducive learning environment for the children.
