Wawase Residents Call for Urgent School Infrastructure to Boost Teaching and Learning

Residents of Wawase, a community in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region, have called on the government, the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, and the Education Directorate to urgently provide modern classroom infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning in the area.

Speaking to the media, the residents explained that the current classroom block, which serves pupils from Primary One to Primary Six, was constructed by community members through self-help efforts. They described the structure as weak and poorly ventilated, with the roof and walls deteriorating. Some classrooms have developed potholes, making them unsafe for both pupils and teachers, and significantly hindering effective learning.

The residents also highlighted challenges with teachers’ accommodation. Although the community built a teachers’ bungalow, the lack of a reliable telecommunication network has forced teachers to commute from long distances. This has led to frequent lateness and disruption of lessons, further affecting the quality of education in the community.

The Wawase residents are therefore urging the government and relevant authorities to intervene by constructing a modern, well-furnished classroom block with all necessary facilities. They emphasized that such infrastructure would not only provide a safe and conducive learning environment for the pupils but also encourage teachers to stay within the community, thereby improving overall educational outcomes.

In conclusion, the community appealed to the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament, and the Education Directorate to prioritize Wawase in development plans. Residents expressed hope that immediate action would address the deteriorating school facilities and provide a modern, safe, and functional educational environment for the children.
