Chiefs slap Chairman Wontumi over shoddy contract

Some chiefs and people of Amansie west district in the Ashanti Region have protested against the Ashanti Regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr Bernard Antwi Bosiako (Chairman Wontumi) over ‘shoddy’ construction of their road networks in the district.

The chiefs and the residents claim that Chairman Wontumi was awarded with the construction of the road network in the area but failed to do excellent job due to ‘substandard’ equipment he brought to execute the projects in the area.

All the machines he (Wontumi) brought to do the work are outmoded and could not good work on the roads and
he failed to use proper building materials for the construction of roads,” the residents alleged.

Speaking to media, the chief of Nnyinasaase Nana Kwaku Duah ,he was not pleased with the way the roads were constructed. “We are not happy with the manner in which the road is being constructed and we think it will not last long, Nana Kwaku Duah, furthered.

According to the traditional ruler, “the poor construction of roads in the community have impeded movement and caused houses to flood anytime there is heavy down pour.”               Nana Kwaku Duah appealed to the government and Road Minister to terminate the contract given to the Chairman Wontumi, since they claim he cannot do a professional job.

The chief threatened to advise themselves in the 2024 general elections should the authorities turns deaf ears to their plea. In a related development, Nana Kwaku Duah also complained about the absence of a functioning telecommunication network, making it difficult for residents and its surrounding communities to reach their love ones.

According to him, all efforts made the various telecommunication companies to solve the problem have yielded no positive results and has thus appealed to the ruling government to as matter of urgency come to their aid to improve the socio economic development on the area of the people.

“Most residents in the area have to climb trees and hills before getting access to networks to be able to contact their families and love ones,” the chief said.
