Ahafo Regional Education Director Pledges Regional Hub of Excellence for Education

The Ahafo Regional Education Directorate, under Mr. Abraham Fletcher’s leadership has outlined ambitious plans to transform the region into a hub of excellence in education.

This vision will be achieved through a multifaceted approach prioritizing quality teaching, infrastructure development, and community engagement.

As the newly posted director of education for the Ahafo Region, Mr. Abraham Fletcher shared his vision for improving education in the region.

He spoke in an exclusive interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark FM during the launch of Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School’s 60th anniversary on Thursday, 8th May, 2025.

With a focus on quality teaching, infrastructure development, and community engagement, Mr. Fletcher aims to make Ahafo a hub of educational excellence.

The directorate plans to provide regular training and support for teachers to enhance their skills and knowledge in best teaching practices.

Mr. Fletcher also pledged to improve student performance in examinations, emphasizing the importance of developing students’ competencies, values, and moral respect to fit into society.

He said that to recognize and reward dedicated teachers, the directorate will institute an award scheme, “Regional Ghana Teacher Prize” and “Best Teacher in Administration” awards, alongside an appraisal system.

This initiative, according to him, aims to support and appreciate teachers and stakeholders, driving excellence in the regional education value chain.

He emphasized the need to foster strong partnerships with parents, community leaders, and stakeholders to promote education and encourage community involvement.

The integration of technology in education will enhance teaching and learning, while School Performance Improvement Meetings will engage stakeholders, identify shortfalls, and build on success stories.

According to Mr. Fletcher, the directorate, is committed to addressing barriers to education, including the impact of mining, lack of teachers, and teaching materials, through engagement with relevant authorities.

By working together with stakeholders, the directorate is confident that Ahafo will become a model for educational excellence in the country, with improved academic performance, increased access to quality education, and a more skilled workforce in the region.
