Galamsey Gone Wrong: Illegal Miner Killed in Dormaa-Akwamu as Self-Styled Task Force Leader Unleashes Violence

Dormaa Ahenkro, Bono Region – A violent incident occurred in Dormaa-Akwamu, a suburb of Dormaa Ahenkro, on October 29th, leaving one person dead. An alleged task force from Doma, reportedly an illegal anti-galamsey group, clashed with illegal miners in the area, resulting in the fatal shooting of an individual.
According to eyewitnesses, the task force, led by a man identified as Prince, arrived at Dormaa-Akwamu Street, Dormaa Akontanim, with the intention of arresting illegal miners. Before the shooting, Prince stated clearly that he had been authorised by the Paramount Chief of Dormaa (Dormaa Hene) to shoot and kill anyone involved in galamsey activities.
The situation quickly escalated, and Prince allegedly pulled a pistol and shot a person dead without warning.
It is alleged that Prince bought a V8 car for the Paramount Chief of Dormaa as a gift for his recent birthday celebrations, raising questions about the chief’s involvement in the incident.
The illegal miners were reportedly running to escape when the shooting occurred. Eyewitnesses stated that only Prince and Bright, the Paramount Chief’s bodyguard, arrived at the scene.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among the local community, with many calling for justice and accountability. Investigations have revealed that Prince has a history of involvement in illegal mining activities and has been linked to several other violent incidents in the area. Prince is also believed to be working with a Chinese company involved in illegal mining.
The Paramount Chief of Dormaa has not made any public statements regarding the incident.
The police task force has taken custody of the deceased’s body for further examination and is continuing its investigation. Despite the identification of individuals involved, including Prince and Bright, no arrests have been made as of yet.

The incident highlights the ongoing struggle with illegal mining in the Bono Region and the need for authorities to take decisive action to address the issue. The community is calling for immediate arrest and prosecution of Prince and any others involved in the shooting, as well as clarification of the Paramount Chief’s involvement and authorization of the task force’s actions.
The government is urged to take immediate action to address this incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
