Sekyere Kumawu DCE Hon Kwasi Amankwaa Leads Initiative to Uplift PWDs

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Kumawu, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa, has renewed the hopes of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district after leading the distribution of financial support and essential items to 100 beneficiaries.

The event, held at the forecourt of the District Assembly, was a demonstration of the government’s commitment to inclusivity under the Disability Fund of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). Beneficiaries, many of whom were receiving such assistance for the first time, could not hide their joy as they received business capital, educational support, medical aid, and mobility devices.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Amankwaa emphasized that empowering PWDs remained a top priority of his administration. According to him, development is incomplete when sections of society are left behind.

“We believe in creating an environment where every person, regardless of their abilities, can live with dignity and contribute to the growth of our district. This initiative is not an act of charity but an investment in the potential of our people,” he stated.

The DCE explained that the Assembly had adopted a more transparent approach to disbursement. Instead of entrusting funds to individuals or committees, the Assembly worked directly with certified suppliers to provide the required items. This, he noted, was to ensure accountability and prevent misuse of resources.

The support package covered various areas including business empowerment, medical care, and educational assistance. Some beneficiaries received GH₵2,000 each to start or expand small businesses, while others were assisted to pay school fees or cover urgent medical needs. In addition, mobility aids such as wheelchairs and crutches were handed over to PWDs who required them.

Madam Regina Ampomaa, Chairperson of Persons with Disabilities in the district, expressed gratitude to the government and the Assembly for increasing allocations to the Disability Fund. She also urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support to transform their lives.

“This is a golden opportunity for us. Let us use it wisely so that we can change our circumstances and prove that with the right support, PWDs can contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.

For many beneficiaries, the gesture was more than financial or material aid—it was a recognition of their dignity and worth. Some described the intervention as life-changing, stressing that the assistance had restored their hope for a better future.

The ceremony ended with a renewed sense of optimism, as Hon. Amankwaa assured the gathering that the Assembly would continue to prioritize inclusivity and empowerment in its development agenda.

With this initiative, the Sekyere Kumawu Assembly has taken a bold step towards building a fairer, more inclusive society where no one is left behind.
