In a bid to enhance security and curb robbery attacks in the Bono Region, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency, has donated a brand-new Nissan pickup vehicle and two motorbikes to the Regional Police Command.
The MP underscored the significance of President Mahama’s “reset agenda,” a comprehensive initiative designed to drive economic recovery and institutional reform.
By donating to the police service, she emphasized her commitment to supporting the agenda’s goals, ensuring effective governance and public safety, while acknowledging the police service’s tireless efforts in maintaining peace in the region.
The Sunyani West MP told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark fm that the donation on Tuesday, June 10, aims to equip the police to conduct regular patrols on major highways, ensuring the safety of travellers.
“This support is not just a donation; it reflects my deep commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Sunyani West and the Bono Region. Our communities deserve to feel safe and protected, and I remain dedicated to helping make that a reality,” she stated.
Hon. Millicent indicated that the donation was prompted by distress calls from communities such as Nsuatre, Ayakomaso, and Mantukwa lamenting robbery attacks on the Sunyani-Berekum highway.
Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah urged the regional police command to put the vehicle and motorbikes into good use and encouraged residents to provide information to security services to help arrest perpetrators.
The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addea Akwaboa esq. commended the MP for the donation, noting its significance in enhancing security.
The Minister, who handed over the keys to DCOP Yao Tettegah, the Bono Regional police commander, indicates Regional Security Council’s plans to erect police posts in a section of road with poor telecommunication network.
He told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that as head of the Regional Security Council, he pledged to support security agencies with necessary resources.
DCOP Yao Tettegah, the Bono Regional Police Commander, appreciated the MP’s generosity and promised to utilize the donated vehicles effectively.
“This is not going to be anyone’s private vehicle for personal use. The vehicle and the motorbikes will be deployed to hotspots known for armed robbery and other criminal activities,” he assured.
DCOP Yao Tettegah warned the youth in the region over the abusive intake of narcotic substances such as Cannabis, Tramadol, Red, etc.
He cautioned the youth that Police will have no option than to deal ruthlessly with those who are caught dealing in drugs.
