Staff of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have exhibited a profound sense of cultural pride and national identity as they marked Ghana Month with a colourful display of traditional attire at their offices in Kumasi.

On Thursday, March 19, 2026, the usually formal working environment of the Assembly was transformed into a vibrant cultural scene, as staff set aside their official corporate wear to don authentic Ghanaian clothing. The initiative, led by the Metro Coordinating Director, Francis Dwira Darko, formed part of activities aimed at celebrating and preserving Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

The occasion rekindled memories of earlier times when traditional attire was a common feature of everyday life, symbolising identity, dignity, and belonging. Male staff were elegantly dressed in kente cloth, smocks, and other locally produced garments, neatly paired with traditional sandals. Female staff also made a striking impression, appearing in beautifully crafted traditional outfits, complemented with headscarves and cultural accessories that reflected the diversity and elegance of Ghanaian fashion.

The atmosphere was not only festive but also purposeful, as the celebration sought to deepen appreciation for indigenous culture while fostering unity among staff. The Assembly’s corridors and offices were filled with colour, pride, and a renewed sense of national consciousness.

Notably, the Head of the Records Unit, Kingsley Sarkodie, played a key role in documenting the event. Clad in an eye-catching kente ensemble, he ensured that staff members in their various traditional outfits were professionally captured for official records, demonstrating both initiative and organisational leadership.

The traditional attire day follows an earlier activity held the previous Friday, during which staff wore football jerseys—largely representing the Ghana national football team and Asante Kotoko SC—as part of the Ghana Month celebrations, blending sports enthusiasm with cultural observance.

Attention now turns to the upcoming inter-departmental cooking competition scheduled for Thursday, March 26, at the Assembly’s office car park. The event is expected to further enhance staff interaction and showcase culinary talents across departments.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, who impressed many with their performance in last year’s competition, have expressed confidence in retaining their title. However, other departments and Assembly Members have signalled their readiness to challenge for top honours, promising a lively and competitive contest.

Guided by its enduring mantra, “Where Ghana Happens,” the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly continues to set the pace in promoting cultural identity and unity through innovative and engaging initiatives. The Ghana Month celebrations serve not only as a tribute to the nation’s heritage but also as a platform to strengthen bonds among staff while inspiring a deeper appreciation for Ghanaian traditions.

As activities progress, the Assembly remains poised to deliver yet another memorable celebration, reinforcing its role as a hub of culture, creativity, and civic pride in the Ashanti Region.
