The Government of Ghana has successfully facilitated the safe return of a number of its nationals from Israel and Cambodia, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the protection and welfare of citizens abroad, particularly those in distress.

The returnees, who arrived in the country on Thursday, March 19, 2026, included some members of staff of Ghana’s Embassy in Tel Aviv, as well as other Ghanaian nationals who required urgent consular assistance. Their repatriation forms part of the government’s broader mandate to provide timely and effective support services to Ghanaians living overseas.
On arrival, the group was officially received on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, by the Coordinating Director for Multilateral and International Organisations, Francis Danti Kotia. The reception underscored the importance government places on the safety and dignity of its citizens, regardless of their location.

Welcoming the returnees, Ambassador Kotia emphasized the government’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding the interests of Ghanaians across the globe. He noted that the intervention to facilitate their return was not only timely but also reflective of a comprehensive and responsive consular policy aimed at addressing the needs of citizens in challenging circumstances.
He further assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to strengthen its diplomatic engagements and consular mechanisms to ensure that Ghanaians abroad receive the necessary support, especially during emergencies or unforeseen situations.

The successful repatriation exercise highlights Ghana’s proactive approach to consular services and its readiness to act swiftly in times of need. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic channels and ensuring that no Ghanaian is left without assistance when faced with difficulties beyond the country’s borders.
The returnees expressed their appreciation to the Government of Ghana for the swift intervention and support, describing the process as efficient and reassuring during a period of uncertainty.

This latest effort further reinforces Ghana’s reputation as a nation that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens, both at home and abroad, through responsive governance and effective international cooperation.
