Staff of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to preserving and promoting Ghanaian cultural heritage, as they marked Ghana Month with a vibrant display of traditional attire and pride.

On Thursday, March 19, 2026, the Assembly’s workforce, led by the Metro Coordinating Director, Francis Dwira Darko, set aside their usual corporate dress code and reported to work clad in rich, colourful Ghanaian traditional wear. The symbolic gesture transformed the Assembly premises into a spectacle of culture, reflecting the essence of Ghana’s identity and heritage.

The initiative, which forms part of activities to commemorate Ghana Month, evoked nostalgia of the country’s cherished past, where traditional attire was not only a symbol of identity but also a daily expression of pride. Male staff appeared in elegant kente cloth, neatly sewn smocks, and other locally made outfits, complemented with traditional slippers. Their female counterparts equally turned out in stunning traditional dresses, adorned with headscarves and cultural regalia that highlighted the beauty and diversity of Ghanaian fashion.

Adding organisation and vibrancy to the event was Kingsley Sarkodie, Head of the Records Unit, who played a pivotal role in ensuring that the colourful moments were well documented. Dressed in a striking kente cloth with matching traditional sandals, he coordinated efforts to capture staff in their finest cultural expressions for official records, demonstrating both leadership and an eye for detail.

The traditional attire day follows an earlier activity held the previous Friday, where staff donned football jerseys—predominantly those of the Ghana national football team and Asante Kotoko SC—to work, blending sports enthusiasm with the Ghana Month celebrations.

As part of the ongoing festivities, anticipation is building ahead of a much-expected departmental cooking competition scheduled for Thursday, March 26, at the Assembly’s office car park. The event is expected to bring together various departments and units in a spirited contest of culinary excellence and creativity.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, who emerged as standout performers in last year’s edition, have confidently declared their readiness to defend their title. However, strong competition is expected from other departments and Assembly Members, who have expressed determination to stage an upset and claim top honours.

With its enduring mantra, “Where Ghana Happens,” the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly continues to live up to its reputation by creating platforms that celebrate national identity, unity, and creativity. The Ghana Month activities not only serve as a reminder of the country’s rich cultural heritage but also reinforce the importance of preserving these traditions for future generations.

As the celebrations progress, Thursday’s cooking showdown is widely expected to provide yet another opportunity for staff to showcase their talents and deepen the spirit of camaraderie that defines the Assembly.
