Hon. Dominic Bonsu Transforms Lives with Gh¢268,000 Empowerment Grant for Market Women

The Assembly Member for the Takorase Electoral Area in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Dominic Bonsu, has brought hope and empowerment to women traders in his community by disbursing a total of Gh¢268,000 in business grants to 268 market women. Each beneficiary received Gh¢1,000, given freely as a grant to support and expand their trading activities.

The initiative, which drew hundreds of residents and community leaders, is widely regarded as an unprecedented act of grassroots leadership in Takorase. The gesture directly addresses the financial struggles of local traders who often face difficulties accessing credit facilities from traditional lending institutions.

In his address at the colourful ceremony held in Takorase, Hon. Dominic Bonsu explained that the support was a fulfillment of a campaign pledge he made to the people before his election as Assembly Member. According to him, keeping his word was central to building trust and confidence with the community, especially the hardworking women whose daily trading sustains families. He urged the beneficiaries to invest the money responsibly in order to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

“This intervention is completely free and without conditions. I made a promise to support our market women if I was given the mandate, and today I am here to fulfill that promise. I believe this is just the beginning of greater things to come, and I will make every effort to sustain this as an annual initiative. My goal is to see women in business thrive, because when women are empowered, the whole community benefits,” Hon. Bonsu declared to thunderous applause.

The program was graced by dignitaries including Nana Tabi Gyansa, Chief of Manso Kwabenaso, and Hon. Peter Awere, Assembly Member for the Manso Adubia Electoral Area, who commended Hon. Bonsu for his visionary leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people. They described the gesture as a landmark moment in the community and urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the money so that the initiative would yield lasting benefits.

“Hon. Dominic Bonsu has set a remarkable example of true grassroots leadership. We encourage all the market women to use the money wisely for its intended purpose so that they can continue to grow their businesses and qualify for future support,” Nana Tabi Gyansa stated.

The market women who benefited from the intervention expressed deep appreciation, describing the support as timely and life-changing. Many said it was the first time they had received direct assistance from a local leader without conditions or repayment obligations. Their testimonies revealed that the grant would relieve them from the pressure of taking small loans with high interest rates, which often undermined their ability to grow their businesses.

The ceremony was well-attended by community members, opinion leaders, and traders, who praised Hon. Bonsu for not only fulfilling his promise but also setting a new benchmark for leadership at the local level. The event ended amidst cheers, songs, and dances from the grateful beneficiaries who hailed the Assembly Member as a man of action whose leadership goes beyond words.

Observers believe that the Gh¢268,000 intervention will significantly boost trading activities in Takorase, thereby stimulating the local economy. By empowering women, Hon. Dominic Bonsu has strengthened families and positioned the community on a path of inclusive development.

With his assurance to repeat the gesture annually, the Assembly Member has redefined grassroots politics as a platform for transformation and empowerment, proving that true leadership is measured not only by promises made but by promises kept.
