Future Scientists in Focus: Nana Akwasi Boansi Poku Hosts Science Fair, Donates GHC 20,000 Lab Equipment to Ohwim School

In a determined effort to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators, Nana Akwasi Boansi Poku, the Otumfuo Suadu Nifahene, has organized a science fair for students of Progressive Shalom School and surrounding communities in Ohwim, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The initiative, aimed at promoting interest in science education among the youth, was crowned with the donation of laboratory equipment valued at GHC 20,000 to enhance science teaching and learning at the school.
The event, which drew the attention of parents, educators, and local leaders, featured science exhibitions and interactive projects by students, demonstrating their grasp of basic scientific principles and their creativity in applying them.
Speaking to journalists during the fair, Nana Akwasi Boansi Poku stressed the urgent need for Ghanaian students to embrace science-related courses, emphasizing that science holds the key to economic growth, job creation, and national development.
“Our young people must begin to see science not as a difficult subject, but as a powerful tool that can help them change their lives and their communities. The world is evolving fast, and science is at the center of that transformation,” he noted.
He explained that students who pursue science at the senior high school level can venture into diverse fields such as physical science, life science, engineering, and health sciences—all of which offer strong pathways into the job market.
Nana Akwasi Boansi Poku’s donation of laboratory tools and equipment is intended to provide students at Progressive Shalom School with the resources they need to gain practical knowledge and confidence in scientific experimentation. The GHC 20,000 worth of equipment includes items essential for basic chemistry, biology, and physics lessons.
The Principal of Progressive Shalom School, Evangelist Michael Adu Poku, received the donation with gratitude and described it as a significant boost to science education in the school. He praised the chief’s dedication to youth development and promised that the school would fully utilize the tools to benefit current and future students.
“This is a turning point for our school. Science cannot be taught effectively without practical tools, and this donation has filled a huge gap. We are committed to nurturing future scientists, engineers, and innovators,” Evangelist Adu Poku said.
He also assured that the school would support any student who shows interest in science and technology, adding that teachers would be equipped to guide learners in their academic and career paths.
The science fair left many students inspired and eager to explore scientific disciplines further. Stakeholders have applauded Nana Akwasi Boansi Poku for his visionary leadership and his continuous investment in education. Many believe that such initiatives by traditional authorities can help address the challenges facing Ghana’s educational system, particularly in the area of STEM education.
The event reaffirms the importance of community-driven efforts in building a strong educational foundation for the future, with Nana Akwasi Boansi Poku leading the way as a true advocate for youth empowerment and academic excellence.
