Manso Akwasiso Residents Appeal for Government Support to Complete Community Centre, Install New Transformer, Extend Electric Poles, and Repair Roads

Residents of Manso Akwasiso, a farming community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, have appealed to the government and relevant authorities to support them in completing their ongoing community centre project, install a new electricity transformer, extend electric poles to unconnected areas, and rehabilitate the deplorable roads linking the town to nearby communities.
The appeal was made when OTEC News reporter Simon OPOKU Afriyie when visited the community during a communal labour exercise organized by the residents to continue work on the construction of their community centre. The project, which began through the community’s self-help initiative, is being funded solely by contributions from residents and well-wishers. It is expected to serve as a multipurpose facility for social gatherings, community meetings, training programmes, and local development activities when completed.

Residents expressed frustration over the slow pace of progress, citing the rising cost of materials and the limited financial strength of community members as major obstacles. They said that despite their efforts to mobilize resources and labour, completing the project without government intervention remains a challenge.

Speaking during the exercise today 3rd November,2025 , The residents noted that the people of Manso Akwasiso are determined to transform their community through unity and self-help but need external support to bring their vision to reality.

They said the completion of the community centre will not only enhance social cohesion but also provide a conducive venue for communal activities, educational programmes, and official meetings.

The residents also appealed to the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Company of Ghana to provide the community with a new transformer and extend electric poles to areas that are not yet connected to the national grid. They explained that the existing transformer is overloaded, leading to persistent low voltage and frequent power outages that disrupt businesses and affect the use of electrical appliances in homes.

A businessman in the community, Mr. Combat Solomon (Sika Gari) appealed to the government to fix the deplorable road network in the area. He said the poor condition of the roads continues to hinder economic activities and discourage traders from visiting the community to buy farm produce. He added that during the rainy season, the roads become almost impassable, making the transportation of goods and passengers extremely difficult.

Mr. Solomon expressed optimism that with improved roads, stable power supply, and completion of the community centre, Manso Akwasiso would experience accelerated growth and development. He called on the government, the district assembly, and corporate bodies to pay attention to the needs of the community to help improve the livelihoods of the residents.
