Western Region Chiefs condemn ‘booing’ of government functionaries

Some concerned traditional leaders in the Western Region have added their voices to their counterparts in other parts of the country by condemning recent orchestrated ‘booing’ of government functionaries.

They noted that although they understand the anger and frustration of many Ghanaians, arising out of global economic hardship caused by COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, disrespecting government functionaries is not the best option to vent such anger.

It is against this backdrop that they have urged the perpetrators, majority of whom are young people, to refrain from such acts.

They contend that this behaviour portrays Ghanaian youth as either indisciplined or rebellious with no ‘proper upbringing’ and urged parents to call their wards to order.

One of such concerned chief is Nana Egya Kwamina XI, divisional chief of Apremdo, who has been moving from one local radio station to the other, expressing disgust over this unhealthy development.

Culture

Speaking on Takoradi based Skyy Power FM yesterday, he reminded the perpetrators that the Ghanaian culture frowns on such behaviour.

Nana Agya Kwamina stressed that no youth with proper upbringing will dream of waiting for hours by the roadside just to boo a presidential or ministerial convoy.

“What even beats my imagination is the support being given them by some politicians and I wonder whether these politicians have the nation’s progress at heart. All those behind these booings should not be surprised when the very youth they are inciting today turn against them one day because the Law of Karma really works,” he stated.

He added that he would not be surprised when some people start insulting him for the position taken just as was done to the Okyenhene, Amoatia Ofori Panyin.
