University of Miami Professors Partner with Breast Care International to Strengthen Breast Cancer Fight in Ghana

The fight against breast cancer in Ghana received a significant boost as a delegation from the University of Miami, USA, visited the Breast Care International (BCI) and Peace and Love Hospital in Kumasi to explore potential collaborations.

Professor Sophia George and Dr. Sanchez, renowned experts in cancer research and public health, engaged in high-level discussions with officials of BCI, focusing on sustainable initiatives to enhance breast cancer awareness, early detection, and treatment in Ghana.

During the meeting, stakeholders deliberated on key interventions, including community outreach programs, research collaborations, capacity-building for healthcare professionals, and improved access to modern diagnostic tools. The discussions underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to reducing breast cancer-related mortality through education and early intervention.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of Breast Care International and CEO of Peace and Love Hospital, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing the urgency of strengthened partnerships in tackling breast cancer, which remains a major public health challenge in Ghana.

“We are excited about this engagement with the University of Miami. Their expertise in cancer research and healthcare delivery will significantly complement our ongoing efforts in breast cancer awareness, screening, and treatment,” Dr. Wiafe Addai stated.

Professor Sophia George expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed her institution’s commitment to supporting Ghana in the fight against breast cancer.

“Breast cancer is a global concern, and we believe that through partnerships like this, we can make a meaningful impact by bridging the gap in healthcare access and education,” she noted.

Dr. Sanchez highlighted the potential for collaborative research initiatives that could provide critical data to inform policy decisions and improve breast cancer outcomes in Ghana.

The visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership that is expected to yield groundbreaking interventions in Ghana’s healthcare sector. Moving forward, both institutions plan to finalize specific projects that will be implemented in the coming months to improve breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across the country.

This collaboration reinforces Breast Care International’s leadership in the fight against breast cancer and its continuous effort to forge international alliances to enhance healthcare delivery in Ghana.
