The Ministry of Health has recognised the Principal of Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) in the Bono Region, Mr. Albert Opoku, for his outstanding contributions to education, research, and healthcare advancement at the 5th Nursing and Midwifery Excellence and Hall of Fame Awards 2025, held at the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale.

Mr. Opoku was honoured with the “Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Excellence Award”, a prestigious category that highlights individuals whose work in academia and research has significantly shaped nursing and midwifery education in Ghana.

As a dedicated academic and researcher, Mr. Opoku has built an impressive scholarly portfolio. Among his notable works is the article “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education”, published in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. His research has provided practical solutions to combat health misinformation, especially around vaccination, while promoting effective strategies for health education and public health improvement.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mr. Opoku expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry of Health and the Nursing and Midwifery fraternity for the recognition. He explained that research is the backbone of progress in both education and healthcare delivery, stressing that it generates knowledge that enriches student training and enhances quality patient care. He encouraged both students and professionals to embrace research not as an academic exercise but as a practical tool for innovation and transformation in the health sector.

The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, organised annually by the Ministry of Health, provide a national platform to celebrate health professionals who demonstrate extraordinary service, leadership, and innovation. The 2025 edition placed strong emphasis on research and evidence-based practice, reflecting the growing demand for scientific solutions to Ghana’s healthcare challenges.

The recognition of Mr. Opoku has been widely celebrated by staff and students of Sampa Nursing Training College, who view the award as a proud moment for the institution. According to many, his honour not only affirms his personal dedication but also positions the college as a beacon of excellence in nursing and midwifery education within the Bono Region and across the country.
