The Principal of Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) in the Bono Region, Mr. Albert Opoku, has received national recognition at the Ministry of Health’s 5th Nursing and Midwifery Excellence and Hall of Fame Awards 2025, held at the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale.
Mr. Opoku was presented with the “Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Excellence Award” in acknowledgement of his remarkable dedication to academic leadership, research, and the training of healthcare professionals in Ghana. The award celebrates his efforts in advancing evidence-based learning and nurturing future generations of nurses and midwives.

Beyond his leadership role, Mr. Opoku is highly respected in academic and professional circles for his research contributions. Among his published works is the article “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education”, which appeared in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. His research has been particularly impactful in addressing vaccine misinformation and promoting public health education across communities.
In his remarks after receiving the award, Mr. Opoku expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the importance of research in driving progress within the health sector. He explained that research is not only a foundation for knowledge but also a practical tool for improving patient care and enriching the teaching process in health institutions. He encouraged both students and professionals to embrace research as a culture that ensures innovation and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.
The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, which are held annually, serve as a platform to honour individuals and institutions who demonstrate exceptional service, innovation, and leadership in Ghana’s health sector. This year’s ceremony placed particular emphasis on the role of education and research in shaping the future of nursing and midwifery.
