BACKGROUND
On the 3rd of January 2022, the KMA in partnership with the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta (MANRA) of Spain and the City of Praia (CMP) of Cape Verde initiated the project with funding from the European Union under the Local Authorities Partnership for Sustainable Cities 2021.

Over the past 30 months of the project, the KMA has benefited in diverse ways such as building the capacity of its human resources through peer-learning of best practices outside Ghana, augmentation of its waste management equipment, extensive awareness creation among the citizenry and mechanisms for raking in revenue to sustain what has been achieved by the project.

Hon. Samuel Pyne in his keynote address indicated that the project’s achievements have been diverse since the official launch of waste containers and trucks, and extension to the comprehensive awareness campaigns undertaken in the CBD. He said these initiatives have not only improved waste management practices but has also fostered a sense of community ownership and responsibility.
He emphasized that the KMA will continue to build on the foundations laid by the HORESD Project, striving for sustainable development and environmental excellence in Kumasi.

In attendance were also all Territorial Management Group and Technical Working Group Members of the HORESD Project among others.

Earlier, the HORESD Delegation led by H.E.Mrs. Paqui Momparler conferred with Hon. Sam Pyne at his office.

We at KMA are thankful to our development partners, the 1000 cubic metre BLUE 🔵 and BROWN 🟤 waste bins you see in town is as a result of this HORSED project.
