I was made easy target by ECG -Amansie South DCE

Clement Opoku Gyamfi, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie South says the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) made him an easy target to cover up for their inefficiency as power distributors.

Speaking to this reporter, Mr Gyamfi said he realised that an interview he had granted Angel FM in second week of March infuriated the ECG for suggesting that they were lethargic in their work.

He noted that the interview he gave was only to alert them that when they sell power to post paid customers they should go out to take the bills so they could run operations smoothly.

“My intention in the interview I gave was to prompt and conscientize the power distributors to be proactive in collecting revenue due them rather than staying lethargic to record losses”, the DCE clarified.

Reacting to the disconnection of his official residence from the national grid, Mr Gyamfi said that the District Assembly would deal with the issues and seek a resolution through proper procedures.

He noted that it was intriguing that the ECG would disconnect the official residence from the national grid when they have failed to provide appropriate billing and were now claiming that the residence was on an illegal connection.

“I came to office to replace a DCE who was relieved off his duty and as government appointee it was not my duty to check if an official residence which had stood before I came here was connected illegally because that’s the business of the Estate Department of the Assembly and not mine”, the DCE explained.

He wondered why the ECG would storm the Assembly with full media and Police presence just to disconnect the Assembly from the national grid when they had not provided a bill for the Assembly to pay for several months and were now claiming the residence was connected illegally on power.

Background:

Last week, the ECG disconnected the official residence of the Amansie South DCE from the national grid.

The company claimed the residence had been illegally connected and therefore suggested that the DCE had knowledge of the activity.

However, the DCE rebutted the claims and said the action of the ECG was an attempt to witch- hunt him for suggesting in a radio interview that they were acting inefficient.

The DCE in the said interview said it was mind boggling that as power distributors, the ECG had failed to collect bills from post paid customers and in some cases had not provided bills or appropriation to some persons who were enjoying power freely.
