Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson Cuts Sod for 10 Water Supply Projects to Boost Access to Clean Drinking Water in Ahafo Ano South East

Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ahafo Ano South East District, has cut sod for the construction of ten critical water supply projects aimed at expanding access to clean and safe drinking water for rural and peri-urban communities in the district.
The projects, which comprise five Small Town Water Supply Systems and five standpipe (standpipe/stand post) water supply projects, form part of the government’s broader vision to ensure equitable access to potable water across the country, particularly in underserved communities.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held across four beneficiary communities including Adugyame Zongo, Biemso Number Two, Asempanaye and seven other selected communities within the district, was attended by the Member of Parliament for the area, traditional leaders, assembly members, opinion leaders and residents, who expressed optimism about the life-changing impact of the initiative.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson explained that the Small Town Water Supply Projects are designed to significantly expand water supply capacity, improve system flexibility and provide a reliable source of clean water to communities that have for years grappled with inadequate and unreliable water supply.

According to him, the projects involve the construction of new water supply systems that will serve multiple communities, reduce dependence on unsafe water sources and enhance public health outcomes. He described the initiative as one of the most ambitious water infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the district.

“This will, by far, be the biggest water project in the history of Ahafo Ano South East,” the DCE stated, adding that access to clean drinking water remains a fundamental right and a critical pillar of socio-economic development.
Explaining the rationale behind the intervention, Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson noted that communities such as Adugyame and other parts of the district have experienced rapid population growth over the years. This growth, he said, has placed immense pressure on existing social infrastructure, particularly water supply systems, resulting in demand far outstripping supply.
He observed that the water situation has not only affected household consumption but has also impacted sanitation, health delivery and general living conditions, hence the urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable solution.
The DCE used the occasion to commend the government for prioritising water infrastructure development in rural districts, stressing that since President John Dramani Mahama assumed office, Ahafo Ano South East has witnessed significant improvements in critical sectors including town roads, access to quality drinking water and other key development areas.

“Since President John came into office, the district has seen visible development across several sectors. These water projects are further proof of the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of our people,” he said.
He therefore called on residents to have confidence in the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, assuring them that more development projects are in the pipeline to address the pressing needs of communities across the district.
Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson further urged beneficiary communities to take ownership of the projects, protect the facilities upon completion and use the water responsibly to ensure sustainability for future generations.

Traditional leaders and community members present at the ceremony expressed their appreciation to the government, the DCE and the Member of Parliament for responding to their long-standing appeals for clean water, describing the projects as a major relief that will significantly improve health, sanitation and overall quality of life in the district.
