545 Police Graduates Deployed to Support Government’s 24-Hour Economic Agenda

The Ghana Police Service has passed out 545 recruits, comprising 298 females and 247 males, at the Ashanti Regional Police Training School in Kumasi.

Speaking at the passing-out ceremony on Friday, July 4, the Director-General of Services at the Ghana Police Service, COP Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu, emphasised the critical role the police will play in supporting the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.

He revealed that a special security unit has been established at the Police Headquarters to support this policy direction.

“The Ghana Police Service has a cardinal role to play. The police will be expected to provide the needed security to ensure that the citizenry and everyone are well protected at all times. In line with its proactive measures, the Police Administration has established a new unit at the Headquarters known as the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat to support this effort,” he stated.

Dr. Owusu encouraged the recruits to serve with humility, integrity, and diligence in the discharge of their duties. He urged them to remain professional, accountable, and respectful in their interactions with the public, stressing that the success of the 24-hour economic policy hinges significantly on public confidence in law enforcement.

He also cautioned them against using their uniforms and authority to intimidate the public, reminding them that their primary duty is to uphold peace, protect lives and property, and build trust with the communities they serve.

The 545 recruits underwent rigorous training in both physical and theoretical aspects of policing, including crowd control, criminal law, ethics, human rights, and the use of technology in crime prevention.

The passing-out ceremony was attended by senior police officers, local government officials, families of the recruits, and members of the public, who applauded the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to national development through strengthened security.

This fresh batch of officers is expected to be deployed across the country, especially in areas earmarked for extended business hours and shift-based economic activities, in line with the government’s strategy to boost productivity and job creation through a 24-hour economy.
