Kumawu Technical Institute Graduation: Ashanti TVET Boss Urges Students to Embrace Digital Skills for Job Creation

The Ashanti Regional Director for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Engineer Richard Addo Gyamfi, has urged students pursuing technical and vocational education to embrace digital transformation as a powerful tool for creating jobs and staying relevant in today’s competitive labor market.

Addressing graduates during the 2025 graduation ceremony of the Kumawu Technical Institute in the Ashanti Region, Ing. Richard Addo Gyamfi emphasized the need for students to acquire robust digital competencies to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential.

According to him, the global job landscape is rapidly evolving, with many sectors—both digital and non-digital—now requiring some level of digital literacy. He stated that understanding how to use digital tools, navigate online platforms, and adapt to new technologies will give TVET students a competitive edge in both local and international job markets.

“Digital skills are no longer optional; they are essential. Even traditional trades like carpentry, fashion, and electricals now involve some form of digital technology, whether it is for design, marketing, or management. TVET students who embrace digital transformation can not only increase their chances of getting employed but can also start their own businesses and market their services online,” he stated.

Engineer. Gyamfi also encouraged the students to take advantage of free online learning resources and platforms to continuously improve their skills. He noted that with the right mindset and digital tools, TVET graduates can become job creators instead of job seekers.

The Principal of Kumawu Technical Institute, Mr. Godwin Owusu Yeboah, speaking to the media after the event, highlighted some of the infrastructural and logistical challenges facing the school. He made a passionate appeal to the government, corporate bodies, and non-governmental organizations to come to the aid of the institution.

“We are appealing for more classroom blocks, workshops, and accommodation facilities to enable us to admit more students and provide them with employable skills. Technical education is key to reducing youth unemployment, and we need all the support we can get,” Mr. Yeboah stated.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, and the District Chief Executive for Sekyere Kumawu, Mr. Akwasi Amankwaa. Both officials commended the school for its dedication to technical education and pledged their commitment to supporting its growth.

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting TVET as a cornerstone of Ghana’s development agenda, emphasizing that the government has prioritized skills development to tackle unemployment and drive industrialization.

“As a government, we believe in the future of TVET and we will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure that schools like Kumawu Technical Institute become centers of excellence,” he assured.

The graduation ceremony, which saw a large turnout of students, parents, staff, and community members, marked yet another milestone in the institute’s mission to empower the youth with practical skills for national development.
