C/R: Man shot dead by soldier near Kasoa

A 29 year old man has been shot dead by a military officer at Habor a village near Kasoa in-between Ga-South and Awutu Senya East District of the Central Region.

The incident happened on Monday, January 30, 2023 around 4:30 PM.

Reports say the deceased, Alfred Awuku was struggling with a soldier over a gun and in the process, another soldier witnessing what was happening shot the victim three times at his rib to dead.

The victim together with some people were said to have been working on a land when military personnel numbering about six stormed the land and stopped them from working.

But the deceased and his friends defied the order resulting in an argument during which one of the soldiers pulled out a gun and hreatened to shoot the deceased.

The deceased held the gun and tried to disarm the soldier. But in the process, the gun went off killing the deceased instantly.

The rest of the five people who were on the land working with the deceased were forced into a military vehicle and driven to an unknown location.

The body of the deceased has been deposited to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation.

The case has been reported to the Ga South Police Command for investigation.

Speaking in an interview with Kasapa News, Yaw Boagyan, the Assembly Member for Habor Electoral Electoral Area Peter Adonu said, there’s an ongoing litigation of land in the area.

According to him, it has been established that the soldiers were hired to guide a land belonging to a company, a portion of which had been sold to the deceased.

The Assembly man therefore called on the Inspector General Police to beef up security in the Community known for land disputes.
