Atwima Mponua MP Pledges Annual Awards Scheme to Motivate and Retain Teachers in the Constituency

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua Constituency, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, has pledged to institute an annual awards scheme to honour dedicated teachers in the constituency. The initiative, according to the MP, is aimed at motivating teachers to continue giving off their best and discouraging the rising trend of teacher transfers out of the area.

Hon. Osei Akoto made the announcement during a community engagement meeting with education stakeholders and residents at Nyinahin. He emphasized that education remains a key pillar in the development of Atwima Mponua and therefore, teachers must be given the needed recognition and encouragement to stay committed to their work.

“Teachers play an indispensable role in shaping the future of our children. We need to appreciate their sacrifices and create incentives that will encourage them to stay and serve our communities. This awards scheme will recognize outstanding teachers annually, and it is my hope that it will inspire excellence and retention,” the MP stated

The MP explained that the awards will be based on performance, commitment to duty, community involvement, and overall impact on academic performance within the schools. He noted that a committee will be formed to oversee the nomination and selection process to ensure transparency and fairness.

The announcement was met with joy and excitement from the teaching community. Many teachers described the pledge as timely and thoughtful, given the numerous challenges they face, especially in rural areas of the constituency.

According to the teachers “This gesture shows that our efforts are being recognized. It will serve as motivation for many of us, especially those of us in remote areas who sometimes feel forgotten. We thank the Honourable MP for thinking about us,” she said.

The teachers commended the MP for the initiative and urged teachers not to leave the constituency. He emphasized that retaining experienced and dedicated teachers is essential to improving learning outcomes and called on all stakeholders to support the initiative.

The MP concluded by reiterating his commitment to promoting quality education in Atwima Mponua, citing ongoing efforts to improve school infrastructure, supply teaching and learning materials, and lobby for more teachers to be posted to underserved communities.

The teacher awards scheme is expected to be launched officially before the end of the year, with the first ceremony likely to take place during the district’s annual Education Week celebration.
