The Assembly Member for Atobease Electoral Area in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Samuel Yeboah, together with the traditional leaders of Manso Moseaso, led by Nana Baffour Awuah II, has taken a bold step to promote sanitation and public health by commissioning an ultramodern 28-seater public toilet facility.
At a well-attended ceremony to officially open the facility, the leadership also announced a total ban on open defecation within the community. According to Hon. Yeboah, the initiative is part of a broader agenda to safeguard the health of residents and uplift the image of the community.
He stressed the negative implications of open defecation on the environment and public health, noting that the newly commissioned toilet facility is a significant milestone in their quest to ensure a cleaner, healthier Atobease.
“Our goal is to promote good sanitation, restore dignity, and improve the well-being of our people. This toilet facility is not just a structure; it is a symbol of progress, and we are committed to making sure it serves its purpose,” Hon. Yeboah stated.
The residents, visibly elated by the development, expressed their appreciation to the traditional leaders, the current Assembly Member, and especially Hon. Appiah Stephen, the former Assembly Member, whose efforts and groundwork contributed immensely to the realization of the project.
In his address, Nana Baffour Awuah II, Chief of Manso Moseaso Atobease, called on the community, especially the youth, to refrain from any destructive behaviors such as smoking inside the facility. He urged all residents to develop a strong maintenance culture to ensure the facility serves generations to come.
“This is a great achievement for our community. We must protect it. Let us use it responsibly and avoid turning it into a place of wrongdoing. Sanitation is key to development, and we must all contribute,” the chief advised.
The commissioning event brought together elders, youth groups, and residents who pledged their commitment to abide by the new directives and support the maintenance of the facility. The ban on open defecation is expected to be enforced strictly, with community education and awareness campaigns already underway.
The ultramodern 28-seater toilet project is a testament to the power of collaboration between local leadership and traditional authorities in addressing development challenges. It reflects a growing commitment among community stakeholders to prioritize sanitation and health as cornerstones of development.
As Atobease steps forward with this bold sanitation initiative, it sets an example for other communities in the Amansie West District and beyond to follow.
