The incumbent member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah has undoubtedly retained his seat for a second term.
He secured 32,210 votes, as certified by the EC district returning officer, after the parliamentary polls.
His contender, Ernest Frempong of the New Patriotic Party, garnered 23,702 out of 56,541 total votes cast.
Enerst Frempong was condemned by some security experts for charging galamseyers to beat police and soldiers that may attempt to halt their mining activities in the constituency.
Despite his denial of the allegations, he was subsequently arrested by the police in the Western Region but left to go unpunished.
According to reports, the NPP parliamentary candidate has gone into hiding following his humiliating parliamentary defeat.
Hon. Amankwah, affectionately known as “Home Boy,” was acclaimed as the NDC’s candidate in August 2019 after going unopposed in the primaries.
He won the Amenfi East parliamentary seat in the 2020 elections with over 36,215 votes.
Prior to the elections, Hon. Amankwah was attacked by armed men at his residence in Wassa Akropong.
He was adjudged the best-performing MP in the Western Region for 2022 by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
Hon. Amankwah previously served as District Chief Executive for the Wassa Amenfi East District Assembly from 2016 to 2017 under the Mahama administration.
