Kumasi Mayor Tours Central Business Districts Unannounced to Enforce City Clean-Up Measures

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has undertaken an unannounced two-day inspection tour of key sections of the Central Business District (CBD) from November 18–19, 2025, as part of intensified efforts by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to enhance urban sanitation, reduce congestion, and improve traffic flow within the metropolis.
The unpublicised exercise saw the Mayor visit several busy commercial enclaves, where he assessed the general sanitary conditions, levels of trader compliance, disposal of waste, and the extent of vehicular obstruction caused by unapproved activities. The tour also formed part of his direct monitoring strategy to gain first-hand insights into persistent urban management challenges confronting the city.

During the inspection, Hon. Agyemang interacted with traders, shop owners, food vendors, hawkers, and commercial transport operators. He urged them to strictly observe proper waste management practices, keep designated trading areas clean, and avoid encroaching on pedestrian walkways and road shoulders — actions that often contribute to unnecessary congestion and public health risks.

He further reminded stakeholders that maintaining a clean and orderly city requires shared responsibility, and the Assembly’s ongoing reforms will be sustained to restore Kumasi’s reputation as one of Ghana’s cleanest and most organised urban centres.

The Mayor’s engagement also included on-the-spot directives to some sanitation officers and taskforce personnel to reinforce enforcement measures and ensure that non-compliant individuals are cautioned or sanctioned in accordance with the Assembly’s bye-laws.

Hon. Agyemang emphasised that the exercise reflects the KMA’s renewed commitment to ensuring environmental hygiene, promoting free movement of people and vehicles, and improving the overall urban landscape for residents, visitors, and businesses.

The unannounced tour, he noted, will be repeated periodically to ensure continuous compliance and long-term transformation of the city’s commercial zones.
