Amansie South Presiding Member Hon. Kwame Amponsah Urges Parents to Prioritize Education Over Lavish Funerals and Extravagant Spending

In a heartfelt call for a renewed commitment to education, the Presiding Member and Assembly Member for the Manso Datano Electoral Area in the Amansie South District, Hon. Kwame Amponsah, affectionately known as Home Boy, has urged parents and guardians to prioritize the education of their children above unnecessary luxury and wasteful social spending.

Hon. Amponsah made this passionate appeal during the presentation of 15,000 exercise books to all Junior High School (JHS) students across the Amansie South District — an initiative aimed at promoting quality education, alleviating the burden on parents, and motivating students to excel academically.

The donation forms part of his broader educational support project, which seeks to ensure that every child in the district, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to the essential learning materials needed to succeed. In addition to the exercise books, Hon. Amponsah announced plans to distribute chop boxes and trunks to all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who gain admission into Senior High Schools (SHS).

He further pledged to offer a GH¢1,000 cash support to every student who continues their education at the SHS level, describing it as a personal commitment to motivate the youth to aim higher and pursue academic excellence. “Education remains the greatest investment any parent can make for their child. I want to encourage parents and guardians to make education their top priority, instead of spending large sums on funerals, expensive clothes, or luxurious cars. Let us remember that education is the only legacy no one can take away from our children,” Hon. Amponsah said.

The Presiding Member expressed concern about the state of some schools in the district, where he observed that certain pupils attend classes barefooted while others learn under trees due to poor infrastructure. He described the situation as heartbreaking and called for collective responsibility from parents, teachers, traditional leaders, and all stakeholders to improve the conditions of education in the Amansie South District.

“It saddens me to see children learning under trees and walking barefooted to school. Every stakeholder has a role to play — we must all come together to create an enabling environment for learning and to secure a better future for our children,” he added.

Hon. Amponsah also expressed his fervent prayer that, in the coming years, the district will produce great men and women — engineers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, professors, and other professionals — who will bring pride and transformation to the Amansie South District and Ghana at large.

Following the presentation, some beneficiary students and headteachers expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Hon. Kwame Amponsah for his remarkable gesture. The students promised to study hard to make him proud and to justify the confidence he has placed in them.

Several headteachers also described the donation as a timely and life-saving intervention, noting that many parents and guardians in the district are struggling to afford exercise books and other school supplies due to financial constraints. “This donation has come at the right time because some parents cannot afford to buy exercise books for their wards. Hon. Kwame Amponsah’s support is truly timely, and it will go a long way to enhance teaching and learning in our schools,” one headteacher said with gratitude.

They further prayed for God’s divine protection and blessings upon Hon. Kwame Amponsah, saying, “May the good Lord grant all your heart’s desires for the love and kindness you continue to show to the children of Amansie South.”

Teachers, parents, and residents who witnessed the event commended Hon. Amponsah for his visionary leadership, humility, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people. Many described him as a man of action whose passion for education continues to inspire hope and change in the district.

Through his consistent efforts, Hon. Kwame Amponsah Home Boy has proven that leadership is not about position but about service to humanity. His enduring commitment to the educational development of Amansie South stands as a shining example of community-driven leadership and a legacy that will continue to impact generations to come.
