Amansie South District Assembly Hands Over Dual Desks to Basic Schools to Boost Education

The Amansie South District Assembly has once again demonstrated its commitment to improving education in the district by officially handing over a consignment of dual desks to selected basic schools. This forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to tackle the long-standing issue of inadequate furniture in public schools and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

In a brief but significant ceremony held at the forecourt of the District Assembly in Adubia, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Benjamin Marfo, presented the desks to the Amansie South District Education Directorate. The desks are expected to be distributed to schools that have been severely affected by the lack of adequate classroom furniture.

Addressing the media after the ceremony, Hon. Marfo underscored the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to promoting quality education at the grassroots level. He emphasized that the provision of furniture is not a mere donation, but a strategic intervention aimed at improving the overall learning environment for pupils across the district.

“Our children are the future leaders of this country, and it is our duty to give them every opportunity to succeed. By providing these desks, we are not only addressing the physical discomfort pupils face but also boosting their morale and enthusiasm for learning. A child who sits comfortably is more likely to concentrate and perform better academically,” Hon. Marfo stated.

He added that the Assembly would continue to prioritize education in its development agenda and assured residents that more interventions were being planned to address other pressing educational needs. He also took the opportunity to urge school authorities to take proper care of the desks to ensure they last long and serve their intended purpose.

“We appeal to school heads and teachers to ensure these desks are well maintained. It’s a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play in sustaining the gains we are making in education,” he added.

On behalf of the Amansie South District Education Directorate, Mr. Joseph Kingsley Adu, the Deputy Director in charge of Supervision and Monitoring, received the desks with heartfelt appreciation. He commended the Assembly for its proactive response to the needs of schools in the district.

Mr. Adu noted that a number of schools in the area have, over the years, been grappling with acute furniture shortages, with some pupils either sitting on the floor or sharing desks in overcrowded classrooms. He described the intervention as timely and essential for improving classroom engagement and teaching outcomes.

“This donation could not have come at a better time. Most of our schools have been in dire need of desks, and this support from the Assembly will significantly enhance the learning environment. It will also improve classroom discipline and make teaching more effective,” Mr. Adu remarked.

He used the opportunity to call on other development partners, NGOs, and corporate institutions to follow the Assembly’s example and support the educational sector in the district.

Some of the Assembly Members in the Amansie South District who were present to receive desks allocated to their electoral areas also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Assembly and the government for the support. They indicated that the intervention would greatly contribute to improving teaching and learning in their communities. According to them, several schools have struggled with insufficient furniture for years, and this initiative brings relief not only to pupils but to teachers as well.

The ceremony was witnessed by a cross-section of stakeholders, including assembly members, officials from the District Education Directorate, headteachers, and traditional leaders. They all lauded the Assembly for its continued investment in education and called for sustained collaboration to improve learning outcomes in Amansie South.

The distribution of dual desks is expected to benefit several schools in communities such as Manso Adubia, Manso Keniago, Manso Nkran, Manso Ankam, and other remote areas where infrastructure challenges continue to affect effective teaching and learning.

This latest move by the Amansie South District Assembly reinforces the government’s broader objective of ensuring access to quality education for all children, regardless of their geographical location.
