Ahafo Ano South West DCE, Abubakar Sadiq, Pushes for Technical Institute to Tackle Youth Unemployment

The newly-appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq, has announced an ambitious plan to establish a technical institution in the district as part of a broader strategy to tackle the growing youth unemployment crisis.

In his first major engagement since assuming office, Hon. Sadiq disclosed that he has already begun engaging traditional authorities across the district to secure land for the proposed technical school. The institution, once established, is expected to provide vocational and technical training to equip the youth with practical and employable skills.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media, Hon. Sadiq explained that the initiative aligns with his development vision for the district and is rooted in the need to build a sustainable future for young people through skills acquisition.

“The time has come for us to focus on giving the youth employable skills, not just academic education. With the support of our traditional leaders, I am confident we can acquire land and begin work towards building a technical institution that will serve the entire district,” he said.

Hon. Sadiq further commended former President John Dramani Mahama for introducing the “Feed Ghana” programme, which he said would significantly complement local efforts to promote agribusiness in Ahafo Ano South West. According to him, the district possesses fertile land and youthful energy that can be harnessed to boost agriculture, enhance food security, and create jobs.

“The Feed Ghana programme is a game-changer. With the right training and support systems, our young people can take advantage of agribusiness opportunities and transform their lives,” he added.

The DCE also used the opportunity to express his gratitude to President Mahama for reposing confidence in him with the appointment and pledged his unwavering commitment to ensuring holistic development across the district.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Prince Oppong, has pledged full support on behalf of the assembly members to the new Chief Executive. He praised Hon. Sadiq for hitting the ground running and described his vision as timely and relevant.

“We are ready to work hand-in-hand with Hon. Abubakar Sadiq to bring development to our communities. Unity among leadership is key, and we will not relent in supporting his initiatives,” Hon. Oppong stated.

He also appealed to the new DCE to prioritize the lobbying of additional infrastructure projects and social interventions for the district.

The announcement of the proposed technical institution has already generated enthusiasm among residents and opinion leaders, many of whom believe such an initiative could serve as a turning point in addressing the unemployment and skills gap in the area.

As the consultations continue, residents remain hopeful that Hon. Sadiq’s tenure will usher in a new era of development and opportunities for the people of Ahafo Ano South West.
