Academic and Research Leader: Albert Opoku Receives Nursing Education Honour
The Principal of Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) in the Bono Region, Mr. Albert Opoku, has been celebrated as one of Ghana’s outstanding leaders in health education and research at the Ministry of Health’s 5th Nursing and Midwifery Excellence and Hall of Fame Awards 2025, held at the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale.

Mr. Opoku received the “Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Excellence Award”, a prestigious recognition that highlights his exceptional contributions to academic leadership, research, and the training of health professionals. His honour places him among Ghana’s most influential figures in the advancement of nursing and midwifery education.
A passionate researcher and educator, Mr. Opoku has authored and co-authored several important publications. One of his most referenced works is the article “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education”, published in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. This work provides evidence-based strategies to counter misinformation on vaccination while strengthening public health education.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Opoku expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health and the nursing and midwifery fraternity for acknowledging his work. He stressed that research is the cornerstone of both education and healthcare delivery, generating new knowledge that enhances teaching, shapes policy, and improves patient outcomes. He encouraged students, educators, and practitioners to embrace research as an indispensable tool for growth, innovation, and transformation in the health sector.
The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards are held annually to recognise individuals and institutions whose dedication, service, and innovations continue to shape Ghana’s healthcare landscape. The 2025 edition placed particular focus on the role of research and education in preparing healthcare professionals to meet the nation’s needs.
The recognition of Mr. Opoku has been hailed as a proud moment for Sampa Nursing Training College.
