Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) Principal Bags National Excellence Award
The Principal of Sampa Nursing Training College (NTC) in the Bono Region, Mr. Albert Opoku, has bagged a prestigious national honour at the Ministry of Health’s 5th Nursing and Midwifery Excellence and Hall of Fame Awards 2025, which took place at the Global Dream Hotel in Tamale.

He was awarded the “Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Excellence Award” for his outstanding leadership in academic training, research, and his contribution to the development of nursing and midwifery education in Ghana. The award recognises his tireless commitment to promoting evidence-based practice, innovation, and professional excellence in the health sector.
Mr. Opoku is widely respected as both an academic leader and researcher. He has published and co-authored several scholarly works, including the notable article “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education”, which appeared in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. His research provides important insights into combating misinformation, especially on vaccination, while strengthening health communication and public education.
In his remarks after receiving the award, Mr. Opoku expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health and the entire nursing and midwifery fraternity for recognising his work. He emphasised that research is critical in both education and healthcare delivery, explaining that it enriches the teaching of students and enhances patient care. He urged health educators, students, and practitioners to cultivate a culture of research and use it as a tool to drive innovation and improve healthcare outcomes.
The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, held annually by the Ministry of Health, celebrate professionals and institutions whose dedication and innovations continue to transform Ghana’s health sector. The 2025 edition brought together health leaders, policymakers, and educators to honour excellence and highlight the importance of research and education in shaping the future of healthcare.
The award to Mr. Opoku has been warmly received by the staff, students, and stakeholders of Sampa Nursing Training College, who described it as a proud moment in the institution’s history. They noted that his recognition reflects not only his personal dedication and vision but also the steady progress of the college as a centre of excellence in nursing and midwifery training in the Bono Region and across the nation.
