AAMUSTED Elections: KNUST Student in police grip for alleged impersonation

One person has been arrested and handed over to the Ghana Police Service by the internal security of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) with the collaboration of vigilant students.

The individual, who at the time of the arrest was cladded in the garb of the EC was identified by some groups of students as not an eligible student to partake in the electoral process.

The arrested person whose name has been withheld for security reasons was seen in the company of his accomplice and disguised as officers of the EC, about to superintend elections of executives for the Opoku Ware II Hall.


Suspect held up the security office
According to the Head of Security at AAMUSTED, Hayford Agyeman, initial investigations conducted into the happenings has identified the individual as a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

“They presented themselves as students working with the Electoral Commission of the University. They were even in the Electoral Commission’s apparel and by the vigilance of some students, they were identified as not students”

“They were confronted in the process one managed to escape but we managed to arrest one and currently, we have handed him over to the police for further investigation. By our preliminary investigation, we gathered that this [supposed] student is from KNUST” Mr. Agyeman revealed.

Meanwhile, our sources have gathered that the second accomplice has been arrested and handed over to the police.

The JCRC elections, conducted on Thursday, February 23, 2023 is the third of its kind since the inception of the University which was earlier an affiliate of the University of Education, Winneba.
