KMA NADMO Tours Five Sub-Metros to Align Operations, Introduce New Leadership, and Address Infrastructure Gaps

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has embarked on a comprehensive working tour of its five Sub-Metropolitan offices as part of efforts to deepen collaboration, streamline operations, and officially introduce its new leadership team.

The sub-metros visited during the exercise included Asokwa, Bantama, Manhyia, Nhyiaeso, and Subin, which all fall under the supervision of the KMA NADMO Directorate. The week-long tour was spearheaded by the newly constituted KMA NADMO management team and saw active engagement with frontline staff and administrators across the various locations.

According to KMA NADMO officials, the tour served multiple objectives: primarily to formally introduce the new leadership, strengthen working relationships, and familiarize themselves with challenges on the ground. More importantly, the visit sought to align the day-to-day activities of the sub-metro offices with both the KMA NADMO Action Plan and the Annual Metropolitan Disaster Preparedness Strategy. “This familiarization tour was not just ceremonial,” a member of the team emphasized. “It was a working visit aimed at fostering a seamless chain of command, improving consistency in disaster response strategies, and making sure every sub-metro operates in line with our broader goals as a city.”

During interactions, the leadership discussed key operational procedures and encouraged open feedback from staff. They reiterated the importance of coordinated planning, timely reporting, and standardized procedures for disaster management at all levels of the metropolis.

As part of outcomes from the tour, KMA NADMO has scheduled a capacity-building training programme for Sub-Metro Operations Heads, their deputies, and office administrators. The training will focus on effective report writing, formal communication, and data management — all aimed at improving coordination between sub-metro offices and the central NADMO command at KMA. “We want our operations to reflect professionalism at every level,” said a senior NADMO official. “Improving the skills of our personnel is the first step toward ensuring accurate reporting, improved disaster preparedness, and timely response.”

However, the tour also unearthed critical challenges, particularly related to human resource disparities and infrastructure deficits. While some sub-metros were found to be overstaffed, others faced severe shortages that could hamper swift response to emergencies. Leadership promised to conduct a follow-up assessment to guide equitable staffing across the metropolis.

The inspection also revealed malfunctioning computers and printers, as well as a lack of basic office furniture such as desks and chairs in several of the sub-metro offices. These logistical shortfalls, if left unaddressed, pose a threat to administrative efficiency and real-time data processing — both essential components of effective disaster management.

KMA NADMO leadership assured the affected offices that efforts are underway to mobilize support and resources to fix the infrastructural gaps. They further encouraged sub-metro teams to be proactive in documenting needs and advocating for support through the appropriate administrative channels.

Overall, the visit was described as impactful and rejuvenating, with staff expressing appreciation for the hands-on approach and the leadership’s commitment to tackling long-standing issues. The renewed energy, transparency, and shared vision established during the tour are expected to enhance performance and enable NADMO to deliver on its mandate within the Kumasi Metropolis.

The KMA NADMO Directorate reaffirmed its dedication to building a well-equipped, responsive, and professional disaster management system, ready to protect lives and property in the face of natural or man-made emergencies.
