MTN Ghana Drives Youth Mentorship and Innovation at KNUST Empowerment Summit

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and innovation by partnering with the Leadership Empowerment Club (LEC Group) to organize the 2025 edition of the National Youth Empowerment Summit and Awards at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The event, which took place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Law Faculty Auditorium, attracted hundreds of students eager to be inspired and equipped with practical knowledge for leadership, financial success, and entrepreneurship.

Now in its fourth edition, the National Youth Empowerment Summit has established itself as a powerful platform for nurturing the next generation of leaders in Ghana. With a theme centered on empowering young people through leadership, investment, and purpose, this year’s summit brought together respected professionals from MTN Ghana, GCB Bank PLC, InvestCorp, and Bel Beverages Company Limited, who engaged the students in thought-provoking sessions.

A key highlight of the event was a presentation by Rosemary Atta Konadu, Head of Retail Shop at MTN Ghana, who challenged the participants to stretch beyond their comfort zones in order to reach their full potential. She emphasized the need for young people to take control of their time, be proactive, seek out opportunities, and believe in a brighter future. According to her, many young people want to succeed but are not willing to put in the effort to grow and develop themselves.

“They are too comfortable in their zones,” she said. “Real growth begins when you challenge yourself to do more, learn more, and give more.” She urged the students to adopt a disciplined lifestyle, collaborate with mentors and positive-minded individuals, and pursue their goals with determination.

The Chief Executive Officer of LEC Group, Albert Prempeh Kusi, also delivered a powerful address on financial discipline and long-term planning. He advised the students to cultivate an investment mentality, stressing that they do not need to earn large sums of money to start saving and building wealth. Rather, he encouraged them to begin with whatever small amount they receive and remain consistent in setting something aside for the future.

He lamented the trend among many young people of spending all the money they receive without planning for tomorrow. “Many Africans are broke not because they don’t earn money, but because they don’t plan their finances. The habit of spending everything today without saving for the future is what keeps many people in poverty,” he stated. Mr. Kusi encouraged the youth to take personal finance seriously, educate themselves on investment opportunities, and avoid the dangerous assumption that money will always be available.

The summit also provided a platform for students to engage in interactive discussions and ask questions on entrepreneurship, technology, and leadership. Participants were inspired by real-life stories shared by the speakers, who discussed the challenges they faced on their journeys and how they overcame them. These sessions not only empowered the students but also provided them with practical tools to apply in their own lives.

Many students described the summit as eye-opening and life-changing. A final-year Sociology student, Afua Serwaa, noted that she left the event with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity. “I’ve learned that success is a daily decision. I now see the importance of saving, setting goals, and stretching myself to achieve them,” she said. Kwame Adomako, a second-year Computer Engineering student, also praised the summit, saying it gave him valuable direction. “I feel more focused and ready to take control of my future. I really appreciate what MTN Ghana and LEC Group are doing for us.”

The summit forms part of a larger movement by LEC Group and MTN Ghana to equip Ghana’s youth with the tools, skills, and mindset needed to thrive in today’s competitive world. As the program concluded, the organizers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the initiative to other regions and campuses across the country.

MTN Ghana’s participation is a reflection of its corporate responsibility agenda, which emphasizes youth mentorship, digital empowerment, and entrepreneurship. Through programs like these, MTN continues to play a pivotal role in building a generation of leaders who are ready to innovate, invest, and inspire.
