In a powerful demonstration of unity and civic responsibility, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon. Grace Asamoah Agyemang, over the weekend led a massive clean-up exercise in the Kromoase Electoral Area, rallying residents, traditional leaders, and security services to tackle sanitation issues in the area.

The clean-up operation, organized by the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, focused on the main streets and adjoining neighborhoods of Kromoase. The exercise saw enthusiastic participation from the District Coordinating Director, Madam Eunice Korankye, Presiding Member Hon. Anthony Kwame Nsiah, officials from the Ghana National Fire Service, Environmental protection Agency,Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, assembly members, chiefs, and local residents.

Beginning in the early hours of the morning, the community came alive with activity as volunteers wielded brooms, shovels, rakes, and other tools to clear refuse dumps, desilt gutters, uproot weeds, and sweep the streets. Fire Service personnel enhanced the effort by spraying water on dusty roads and pavements, giving the town a fresh look.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Grace Asamoah Agyemang emphasized the importance of the exercise, describing it as a vital step toward creating a healthier and more habitable community.

“This clean-up is not just a one-day event—it is a wake-up call for all of us,” she stated. “Sanitation is a shared responsibility, and it begins with the mindset that we all have a role to play in keeping our surroundings clean. A healthy environment promotes good health, attracts investment, and enhances community pride.”

She further cautioned residents against poor sanitation practices and encouraged them to comply with the Assembly’s sanitation regulations to help sustain the gains made through the exercise.

District Coordinating Director, Madam Eunice Korankye, lauded the collaboration between the Assembly and the security services, noting that such joint efforts were key to the success of community-based initiatives. She urged residents to change their attitudes towards waste disposal and warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Presiding Member Hon. Anthony Kwame Nsiah disclosed that the Assembly would soon embark on routine inspections across communities in the district. He warned that individuals or businesses found flouting sanitation by-laws would be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Assembly Member for the Kromoase Electoral Area expressed profound appreciation to the DCE and the Assembly for initiating the exercise in the area. He pledged his commitment to work closely with local leaders and youth groups to promote regular clean-up activities and enforce cleanliness as a community standard.

Traditional leaders in Kromoase, who actively participated in the clean-up, welcomed the Assembly’s intervention and pledged their continuous support to promote environmental hygiene. They also called on households to embrace cleanliness as a core community value and a symbol of respect for one another.

Residents were visibly pleased with the outcome of the exercise. Many praised the leadership of the DCE and called on the Assembly to make such initiatives a regular feature of district life. Some also appealed for the provision of waste bins at vantage points to make proper waste disposal easier and more convenient.

The clean-up exercise forms part of the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly’s broader vision to promote environmental cleanliness, safeguard public health, and foster active citizen participation in local development.
