Fiapre Chiefs hail Sunyani West MP for fixing death trap bridge on Patapo River

The MP for Sunyani West Constituency in the Bono Region, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah has been praised for her immense contribution towards providing relief for her constituents.

The commendations followed her courtesy call on Fiapre Chiefs at the palace on Easter Monday to officially introduce the Sunyani West MCE and the newly elected presiding member to the chiefs of Fiapre.

At the Fiapre Palace, while the chiefs commended the MP for her impressive commitment to development in Fiapre, they appealed to the MP to provide a befitting market, tackle cattle invasion on farms, and provide street bulbs to electoral areas to aid security at night.

Addressing the gathering at the Fiapre Palace, Hon. Millicent Amankwah Yeboah on her part, pledged her commitment to address road challenges, citing the recent visit of the Roads Minister to Sunyani West Constituency as part of the government’s plans to construct major deplorable roads within the constituency.

As part of the official introduction, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah accompanied some chiefs of Fiapre to inspect the ongoing construction of a bridge, which is nearing completion on the Mpataapo River in Fiapre.

Speaking in an interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark fm, the Krontihene of Fiapre, Nana Donyina Kusi II, praised the MP for fixing the bridge, describing the current stage of the bridge as a significant relief.

He revealed that during the rainy season, residents, mostly students living around the NODASS area, were often cut off from crossing the bridge to town, and fixing the bridge has resolved such distressing challenges.

The deplorable bridge was not only cutting off access but also caused frustrations and dismay in the affected area amid protests and calls from community members to authorities for repairs.

The wooden bridge becomes submerged when the Mpataapo River overflows its banks, contributing to distress and blocking accessibility.

Nana Donyina Kusi II shared that in a quest by the community members to fix the bridge, they embarked on a contribution drive to solicit voluntary financial aid, but it proved futile since the money for the project was inadequate.

Hence, he commended the MP for her swift intervention. He is optimistic that the MP will honour all her promises made prior to the 2024 elections due to her proactive actions in addressing key social challenges.

The Krontihene, Nana Donyina Kusi, called on the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly to tackle cattle invasion at Kantro and other farming areas within Fiapre.

In his call, he urged the assembly to enforce its bylaws to regulate the Fulani herdsmen’s invasion urgently, considering the destruction of farm produce.

Millicent Amankwah Yeboah commended the Fiapre Chiefs for championing development and providing unwavering support to materialize her vision.

According to the MP, voluntary support and togetherness have contributed tremendously, making it easier to discharge her duties in the constituency.

Millicent Amankwah Yeboah believes the repaired bridge will prevent casualties and eradicate obstacles when crossing the Mpataapo River.

She said the devastating situation, which had existed for years due to decay, was not addressed under the previous government until her tenure in her first term.

Hon. Millicent Amankwah Yeboah emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration and support from the community to contribute to the prompt completion of the project.
