In a bid to improve school infrastructure and ensure the safety of students, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Hon. Shirley Kyei, has donated 100 bags of cement and a tonne of iron rods to the Nkawie Senior High Technical School (SHTS) for the reconstruction of a collapsed portion of the school’s perimeter wall.
The gesture, which was warmly received by school authorities and traditional leaders, is part of the MP’s broader commitment to providing safe and conducive learning environments for school children within the constituency.
Speaking during the brief presentation ceremony, Hon. Shirley Kyei stressed the urgent need to prioritize the safety of students in educational institutions across the country. She noted that the collapsed wall had left the school vulnerable, posing risks to students and staff, and emphasized that no child should feel unsafe in the pursuit of education.
“Education is a powerful tool for national development, and our children deserve a secure environment to thrive. This donation is not just about building a wall—it is about protecting our future leaders and ensuring they learn in safety and dignity,” she stated.
The donation was received on behalf of the school by Nana Kofi Darko III, Kontihene of Nkawie, on behalf of Nkawie Kumaa Hene, Otumfuo Brempong Baffour Akoto. Nana Kofi Darko III praised Hon. Shirley Kyei for staying true to her word, describing her as a dependable leader who listens to the concerns of her constituents and acts swiftly.
“We are grateful to Hon. Shirley Kyei for fulfilling her promise. This is not the first time she has shown interest in the development of our schools and community. Her leadership is indeed commendable,” he remarked.
School authorities also expressed their appreciation, noting that the wall’s collapse since last year had not only compromised security but also exposed students to external interference.
In addition to the donation, Hon. Kyei took the opportunity to interact with students of Nkawie SHTS, encouraging them to remain focused on their academic goals. She highlighted the value of education as a foundation for personal and national progress and urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.
“As students, your responsibility is to study hard. The government, parents, and community are all playing their roles—yours is to make good use of the facilities and resources provided,” she said.
Hon. Shirley Kyei’s initiative aligns with the broader agenda of promoting safety and infrastructure development in educational institutions. It also underscores the importance of collaboration between government, traditional authorities, and communities in addressing challenges facing schools.
The donation is expected to expedite the reconstruction of the wall and enhance overall safety on the school campus, paving the way for a more secure and supportive academic environment.
The event was attended by community leaders, school management, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) representatives, and students, all of whom commended the MP’s dedication to the welfare of the youth in Atwima Nwabiagya South.
