The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has embarked on a strategic peace tour across various constituencies in the region to resolve internal disputes and unify the party ahead of the 2024 general elections. The initiative is part of the party’s broader efforts to ensure harmony among its members and bolster its chances of “breaking the 8,” a slogan signifying the NPP’s ambition to secure a third consecutive term in office.
During a recent visit to the Bosome Freho Constituency, the Council of Elders, led by its secretary, Mr. Victor Owusu, worked to mediate and settle conflicts between parliamentary candidates and some disgruntled party members. Mr. Owusu emphasized the importance of unity in the party’s quest to retain power and urged all factions within the constituency to put aside their differences for the greater good of the party.
*Resolving Disputes for a Common Goal*
In an interview, Mr Victor Owusu expressed confidence that the peace-building process had yielded positive results. “All the issues have been discussed, and we’re pleased to announce that the candidate’s and party members are now working together in harmony. The ultimate goal is to campaign together and ensure we break the 8,” he said.
He acknowledged that misunderstandings and disagreements are common in every political setting but urged members to remain focused on the bigger picture: maintaining the NPP’s dominance in the Ashanti Region and nationally.
The NPP Constituency Chairman for Bosome Freho, Mr. Kwaku Frimpong, also expressed his satisfaction with the intervention of the Council of Elders. He noted that while disagreements are a natural part of any democratic organization, the move by the council to mediate and restore peace was timely and commendable.
“It’s normal to agree to disagree in every gathering,” Mr. Frimpong said, “but we are all on the same page now. I can assure you that Bosome Freho is united, and we will do everything in our power to help the NPP break the 8.”
Mr. Frimpong called on all party members in the constituency to rally behind the NPP and intensify their campaign efforts as the elections approach. He reiterated that the only way to secure victory in 2024 is through teamwork, discipline, and a commitment to the party’s values.
The Ashanti Region, often referred to as the NPP’s “stronghold,” is critical to the party’s electoral success. The Council of Elders’ tour is part of a wider plan to address internal challenges in various constituencies across the region, ensuring that local disputes do not hinder the party’s efforts to secure votes.
Party insiders have emphasized the importance of these peace-building efforts, particularly as the 2024 elections draw nearer. With the NPP aiming to make history by securing a third term in government, the focus is now on ensuring that all party members work in unison to achieve this ambitious goal.
The Council of Elders is expected to continue its tour, visiting other constituencies in the region to mediate disputes and foster unity. Party leadership is optimistic that these interventions will contribute to a stronger, more united front ahead of the elections.
