Hon Williams Darko, DCE Atwima Mponua district
Some opinion leaders and Assembly Members in the Atwima Mponua district of Ashanti have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to consider the outstanding and courageous role played by Hon. Williams Yaw Darko, the District Chief Executive, in reclaiming the Nyinahin Bauxite Concession given to Ibrahim Mahama and retain him in his second term.
Former president, John Dramani Mahama, before he left office as president selfishly gave the Nyinahin Bauxite Concession to his younger brother, Ibrahim Mahama but it took the brave collaborative interventions of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, who doubles as the Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah and Hon. Williams Yaw Darko to prevent Ibrahim Mahama from entering the concession.
Based on this courageous effort of Williams Yaw Darko, affectionately called ‘SHOW BOY’ the opinion leaders are of the view that should Nana Akuffo-Addo maintains the DCE to continue, the district would witness major developments under him.
Nana Kwaku Boah, the Odikro of Kotokurom, in a press conference at Nyinahin, said that changing Williams Yaw Darko will be a great disservice which will retard the progress of the area considering the services he has rendered to the District, since his assumption as the District Chief Executive.
“He has done marvellously well and has served the people well since he assumed office. His removal or replacement will not augur well for the area. He deserves another four more years, giving the outstanding performance he has already exhibited”, Nana Kwaku Boah added.
The chief observed that Atwima Mponua which is noted for poor road network but is gradually changing under the stewardship of the indefatigable DCE.
The chief in support of some Assembly Members; Hon. Mohammed Sagura (Assembly Member for Otaakrom Electoral Area), Hon. Charles Nsiah ( Assembly Member for the Ntobroso Electoral Area), Hon. Kwadwo Asante ( Assembly Member for the Mpasatia Electoral Area) and other assembly members said that the DCE has always listened to the needs of the people in the area, having stood behind Isaac Kwame Asiamah to reclaim the Nyinahin Bauxite Concession for the community and Ghana as a whole.
“Under his watch as the DCE, the Assembly has also been able to provide seedlings to the majority of the farmers in the area. He also managed to assist the NPP executives to garner more votes for the party and it’s parliamentary candidate. About 85 per cent of the road network in the district have been given a facelift and with these achievements and others, Williams Yaw Darko deserves another term of office,” Hon. Kwadwo Asante appealed to Nana Akuffo-Addo.
“Hon. Williams Yaw Darko deserves another four years term in office for his outstanding leadership qualities and the unity he has brought to the whole district, especially Nyinahin, where chieftaincy disputes raised it’s ugly head,” Hon. Sagura reiterated.
