The HORESD project launched a campaign in April 2024 for Basic schools within the metropolis as part of measures to clean the environment.
The campaign sought to challenge the pupils to bring out innovative ways of reusing plastics for the benefit of society.
The competition brought together selected schools such as Fankyenebra Primary A&B,( Nhyiaeso Sub- Metro), Amankwatia A&B, ( Sub- Metro), St. Joseph’s primary A&B,( Manhyia South Sub- Metro), Bantama Presby primary A&B, (Bantama Sub- Metro), and Buokrom MA primary A&B Manhyia North Sub- Metro).
Today at the Prempeh Assembly Hall an award ceremony was held to honour the schools for their ingenuity in the handling of “WASTE SEGREGATION AND RECYCLING CHALLENGE”.
The maiden award Categories and Winners are as follows:
1- BEST SHEP COORDINATOR – Theresah Adwoa Adomako (Amankwatia Prim. A), brand new laptop.
2-BEST HEAD TEACHER – Mavis Horsu (St. Joseph Primary), brand new laptop.
3-BEST TEAMWORK AMONG TEACHERS – (Buokrom Primary B), brand new Refrigerator
The overall WINNER/BEST SCHOOL – Amankwatia Primary B won a cash prize of €3,000 (cheque of €3,000).
Other consolations prizes were 80 best pupils received a branded HORESD School Bag each whiles the Best Classes received 5 packs of branded exercise books.
In attendance were Hon. Samuel Pyne , Mayor of Kumasi,Hon.Francisco Carvalho, President of the City County of Praia; H.E. Mrs. Paqui Momparler, President of MANRA; Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, MCD-KMA; Helder Moriera, International Project Coordinator and Mr. Victor Rey, Communication Manager-MANRA. The rest were heads of departments of KMA, headteachers, teachers, representatives from the GES Kumasi Metro metro education directorate pupils and the media.
