Dr. Samuel Amagashi Urges Ghanaian Leaders to Prioritize Herbal Medicine Over Foreign Drugs

The Chief Executive Officer of Amagashi Herbal and Spiritual Center, Apostle Dr. Samuel Amagashi, has made a fervent appeal to Ghanaian leaders to place greater emphasis on herbal medicine, stressing that the country is richly endowed with natural remedies capable of improving healthcare delivery nationwide.

In an interview today, Dr. Amagashi questioned the continued dominance of foreign medicines in Ghana’s healthcare system, asking why locally available herbal treatments are not given equal attention. “God has blessed our nation with herbal medicine. Why then do we continue to promote foreign drugs? We should embrace and be proud of what we have,” he said, urging government institutions to take practical steps to support the local herbal industry.

He proposed that the Ministry of Health integrate herbal medicine into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), emphasizing that doing so would make healthcare not only more accessible and affordable, but also culturally relevant for all Ghanaians. Dr. Amagashi also called on policymakers to invest in research, regulation, and standardization of herbal remedies to ensure efficacy and safety for users.

Beyond healthcare, Dr. Amagashi addressed a disturbing social trend among Ghanaian youth, warning against eating with dead bodies, playing with dead bodies, and dancing with dead bodies. “These behaviors have severe health implications and violate our cultural values. Young people must stop immediately,” he cautioned. He stressed the critical role of traditional leaders and community elders in enforcing cultural norms and safeguarding public health.

Dr. Amagashi concluded by urging both the government and community leaders to take concrete actions that would preserve Ghana’s cultural heritage while promoting sustainable and effective healthcare solutions.
