Three Patients detained for their inability to pay their medical bills at County Hospital at Abrepo in the Bantama constituency of the Ashanti Region,have finally been released after the EKK Charity Foundation went to their rescue.
The foundation upon hearing the plight of the patients made total payment of Gh¢28,000 to settle the medical bills of the patients.
The practice of detaining people in hospital for non-payment of medical bills is common in secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities in the country.
Speaking to the media in an interview at a short ceremony today, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EKK Charity Foundation Dr.;Kwoffie Kwafo urged Ghanaians to help the needy and vulnerable people on the streets to ease pressure from the system.
Dr Kwoffie Kwafo expressed worried over how many patients who are unable to pay various medical bills have been detained in various hospitals and described the situation as unfortunate.
He urged Ghanaians to invest in the health related issues and not depend solely on National Health Insurance (NHI) for support.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the CEO and EKK charity foundation for their kind benevolence.
