Two Armed Robbers Lynched, Two Escape with Gold and Cash in Manso Watreso

Two suspected armed robbers were lynched by an angry mob following a botched robbery in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region on January 13, 2025. The incident took place around 8 pm at Manso Watreso when four robbers attacked workers in a community mining area as they were heading home.

According to Kofi Mensah, the Assembly Member for Manso Watreso, the suspects, who arrived on two motorbikes, ambushed the miners. They made off with valuable items, including gold, car keys, and a considerable amount of money. As the robbers attempted their escape, one of the motorbikes carrying two of the suspects fell, giving the victims an opportunity to fight back.

“The two suspects who fell were immediately overpowered by the victims, and the angry mob swiftly lynched them on the spot,” said Assembly Member Kofi Mensah. He further confirmed that the remaining two robbers managed to flee with stolen goods, including more than 30 pounds of gold, a set of car keys, and around Gh¢11,000 in cash.

Following the lynching, the bodies of the deceased suspects were transported to the Manso Agroyesum hospital morgue for further investigation.

Assembly Member Mensah condemned the violence, acknowledging the community’s frustration with the rising security challenges but also urging residents to leave law enforcement to the authorities. “This incident highlights the growing security concerns within local mining areas. While we understand the community’s anger, we must ensure that justice is handled appropriately,” Mensah said.

The police in the Amansie South District are currently investigating the case and working to locate the two robbers who managed to escape. Authorities have also urged residents of Manso Watreso and surrounding areas to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.

The robbery has raised further concerns about the safety of miners in the region, and local authorities are expected to intensify security measures in response.
